Something to Talk About!
Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, a name synonymous with; American History, class, style a Humanitarian. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, the father of the civil rights movement famous all the world over for his "I have a Dream" speech. Dr King can and should be accredited with helping to make this great country what it is today. Both of these people had lives riddled with tragedy, our former first lady lost her husband John F. Kennedy at an early age, Dr King lost his life. The common denominator here is the goal that the Kennedy's and Dr King shared, a goal that would see all people as equal, a goal that has been realized by people like you and me. So why is it, that in 2011 someone would dare to unmask scandal amongst two of the most prolific historical figures in US history? Less than two weeks after the unveiling of Dr. Kings memorial in Washington, there are reports that on September 13, audio tapes of Jackie Kennedy will be released, in which the former first lady expresses her disdain for the awe inspiring civil rights leader. The tapes are said to capture Mrs. Kennedy talking about Dr. King's sexual prowess, and his lack of respect during her husbands funeral as well as his berating of the Cardinal whom presided over the funeral services. It' is said that at one point on the tapes Mrs. Kennedy says that she cannot stand to look at Dr. King and every time she see's him she think's to herself that this is not a good person. Maybe it's just me, maybe I am an emotional faux historian, who believes in preserving an ounce of dignity and respect for the people who came before us, the people who made our privileged lives of excess possible. In a court of law the accused has a right to face their accuser, neither Mrs. Kennedy-Onassis nor Dr. King are here to either refute or explain these alleged conversations. As we all know things are often taken out of context and back then there were so many double dealings and conspiracies floating around Lord only knows what was true and what was false. This however, is what I do know, Dr. King and The Kennedy's collectively contributed so much to this country, that their short comings as human beings should not even be relevant. I'm not saying that their flaws should be over looked, but honestly what is the relevance now, of their imperfections back then, why do they even matter? Are we so cynical as a society that we are willing to go back in history and defame the very people who made our present success possible? Is this world so screwed up that we will do our damnedest to taint any and everything good left in it? Today's leaders are a joke, their lives are full of scandal; adultery, pedophilia, etc. and as if that were not enough, we are going to go dig up dirt on the only people who seemed to have the right idea about how to make this country better. I cannot help but to wonder, why now, why at all? I do not doubt that Jackie O and Dr. King had their own set of issues as we all do, but searching for perfection is a never ending quest, and I for the life of me cannot fathom why someone would want to expose their less than perfect human behavior now. If I may play devils advocate for a moment, how do we know these tapes are real? how easy would it be, to doctor audio tapes from the 60's? We've got to do better people, life cannot possibly that dis-interesting and boring!

Well stated, IfSenseWasCommon! Well stated. Bringing this up now does not do any of these families - that have given and loss so much for us - any good.
Voted up, up and away!
